What are sealants?

It is a plastic resin which bonds to grooves and pits of chewing surface of a tooth. It prevent formation of cavities.

 

How does it work?

Most of the children have difficulty cleaning those hard to reach chewing surface of their back teeth (molars) area. When sealants are applied, those chewing surface became flatter and smooth, thus toothbrush can cleaned better, therefore less chance of decay forming.

 

How long does it last?

Sealants lasted about 3-5 years. We'll check those sealants on their routine care and repaired or reapplied if necessary.

 

What teeth should be sealed?

Any tooth with deep groove and pit should be sealed. Most common teeth to seal are back teeth (molars).

What is procedure for applying sealant?

It is very easy and painless. Teeth are cleaned first, then conditioned, dried, and resin is applied into the grooves. Kids can chew normally right after application.

 

How important is flossing and brushing after sealants are placed?

Sealants are just one of preventive measure we take. Kids should brush and floss regularly
